The company announced a partnership with Google to create AI-powered Glasses on the Android XR platform in May 2025. No specifications have been confirmed yet. It’s also unclear whether the Gucci Edition will include an in-lens display or just audio features like a camera, microphone, and speaker.

Google’s Playbook looks very familiar

The setup is almost identical to what Meta did with Ray-Ban. Tech handles the internals, fashion brands handle the frame. Samsung’s Android XR glasses are following the same approach, with Gentle Monster on the premium side and Warby Parker for a broader audience. Gucci sits on a different level altogether. Ray-Ban glasses cost $300 to $400. Gucci frames routinely cost several times more than they did before any technology was involved.

Reuters noted that Google did not comment on the partnership. For context, Essilor Luxottica reports that Meta smart glasses sales will more than triple in 2025, reaching 7 million units. When Google signs deals like this it clearly has its eye on this number. Whether anyone wants to spend Gucci’s money on smart glasses is a different question, but 2027 is still a long way off.

Gucci isn’t a brand you typically associate with Android apps or Google partnerships.
