Global banking crisis ahead? The mythos of anthropic AI raises new concerns <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nSenior international financial officials, including finance ministers and central bankers, have raised fresh concerns about the “unprecedented” impacts of the latest AI models on the world banking system. <\/p>\n
At the center of concern is Anthropic’s newly released Anthropic Cloud Mythos Preview, which is capable of identifying vulnerabilities in every major operating system and web browser. <\/p>\n
According to top financial leaders, the cloud mythos could seriously disrupt the global financial system by exposing weaknesses in lenders’ cyber defenses. <\/p>\n
“This is a very serious challenge for all of us. It reminds us how fast the AI \u200b\u200bworld is moving,” said Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, chair of the global regulator’s Financial Stability Board.<\/p>\n
Bailey also issued a warning regarding the development of powerful AI models that would make it easier to detect existing vulnerabilities in IT systems. If these models fall into the trap of nefarious actors, they can be easily exploited. <\/p>\n
He also urged global regulators to evaluate the potential cybersecurity threats posed by Mythos AI models. <\/p>\n
Similar troubling concerns were also raised by top officials of the IMF and the World Bank. According to Dan Katz, deputy head of the IMF and former chief of staff to US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, with the rapid development of digital technologies, especially AI models, cybersecurity has become the need of the hour, with it being discussed on the international agenda. <\/p>\n
Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, said, “The developments we’ve seen with Anthropic and Mythos are a good example of a responsible company suddenly thinking, ‘Ah, this could be really good’ \u2013 but if it falls into the wrong hands, it could be really bad.”<\/p>\n
Mythos AI: ‘Unknown Threat’ <\/span><\/h2>\nCanadian Finance Minister Fran\u00e7ois-Philippe Champagne also presented a more bleak picture of the risks posed by the Mythos AI model. According to him, we are still aware of the recent crises arising from the Iran conflict, but when it comes to Anthropic’s cloud mythos, we are facing an unknown threat. <\/p>\n
“Certainly this is serious enough to warrant the attention of all finance ministers. This needs to be given a lot of attention so that we have safeguards in place, and we have processes in place to make sure that we ensure the resilience of our financial system,” Champagne said. <\/p>\n
James Wise, a partner at Balderton Capital, is chairman of the sovereign AI unit, which called Mythos “the first of what will be many more powerful models.” <\/p>\n

“The consequences for the economy, public safety and national security could be dire,” the company warned. <\/p>\n
Given the unprecedented cyber capabilities of the Mythos, Anthropic decided not to release this model to the public. Under Project Glasswing, Mythos will be available to tech giants Google, Microsoft and 40 other organizations. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
