Worried about what would happen if it went wrong, Mr Wang declined.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Mr Wang ultimately decided to have surgery and the chopsticks were removed in early March at Dalian Municipal Central Hospital in northeastern Liaoning province. X-rays of the chopsticks reveal how he kept the large eating implement stuck in his neck for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/people-culture\/trending-china\/article\/3346988\/chinese-man-lives-8-years-chopstick-stuck-throat-resisting-surgery-due-fear\">South China Morning Post<\/a> &#8220;He told us a chopstick was stuck in his throat. I thought it just happened, but he said it happened eight years ago,&#8221; said Dr. Huang Weipeng of Dalian Municipal Central Hospital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The investigation found that the metal chopstick had dug into the soft tissue around Mr Wang&#8217;s throat, but incredibly it had caused no damage to his food or breathing tubes, or his vocal cords.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The operation was successful and Mr Wang was discharged chopstick-free after several days.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Chinese social media reacted with surprise to Mr Wang&#8217;s story. One person wrote: &#8220;12cm long. Oh my god, it&#8217;s so long.
