The first three will be constructed by MHI.<\/p>\n<p>The new warships, based on the upgraded Mogami-class frigates, will replace the current ANZAC-class in the Australian Navy, which are in service <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.gov.au\/about-navy\/history\/history-milestones\/anzac-class-frigate-acquisition\">Since the 1980s.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s MHI beat German rival ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems to win the deal. Japan said Australia could receive the first of the advanced warships before its own navy, tipping the AU$10 billion competition in MHI&#8217;s favor. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-08-05\/australia-japan-navy-frigates\/105613688\">According to Australian news outlet ABC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/asia.nikkei.com\/politics\/defense\/australia-and-japan-sign-mogami-deal-pivot-to-deeper-defense-ties\">Nikkei reported this<\/a> Other companies involved in the deal include NEC Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric and Hitachi, which will provide radar, antennae and other systems for the ships. <\/p>\n<p>Shares of Mitsubishi Electric were last up 3.64%, while Hitachi saw a small gain of 0.8%.
