US Treasury yields remained broadly steady on Wednesday morning after President Donald Trump announced he would indefinitely extend the ceasefire with Iran.<\/p>\n
The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note \u2013 the key benchmark for US government borrowing \u2013 was largely flat at 4.297%.<\/p>\n
The 2-year Treasury note yield, which more closely tracks short-term Federal Reserve interest rate policy, was flat at 3.777%. The longer-term 30-year Treasury bond yield was more than a basis point higher at 4.910%.<\/p>\n
One basis point is equal to 0.01%, and yields and prices move in opposite directions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Trump on Tuesday extended the US ceasefire with Iran for two weeks, saying the extension was necessary because Tehran’s government was “severely fragmented”.<\/p>\n
He said the ceasefire, which he had earlier said would expire on Wednesday, would continue “until” Iran’s leaders and representatives present a “unified proposal” to end the war with the US and Israel.<\/p>\n
The President’s announcement comes after reports that Vice President JD Vance’s expected visit to Pakistan for a second round of peace talks with Iranian officials was put on hold.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, investors are digesting details of Federal Reserve chair nominee Kevin Wersh’s confirmation hearing, which ended on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
