{"id":94920,"date":"2026-04-24T11:48:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T11:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christiancorner.us\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/two-thirds-of-global-hunger-is-concentrated-in-10-conflict-affected-countries\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T11:49:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T11:49:39","slug":"two-thirds-of-global-hunger-is-concentrated-in-10-conflict-affected-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christiancorner.us\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/two-thirds-of-global-hunger-is-concentrated-in-10-conflict-affected-countries\/","title":{"rendered":"Two-thirds of global hunger is concentrated in 10 conflict-affected countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fightfoodcrises.net\/global-report-food-crises\">Global report on 2026 food crisis<\/a>The report, released on Friday by a coalition of UN agencies, the European Union (EU) and partners, found that <strong>266 million people in 47 countries to experience high levels of acute food insecurity in 2025<\/strong> &#8211; Almost a quarter of the population analyzed and almost double the share recorded in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The report paints a clear picture: hunger is no longer a series of short-term emergencies, but an ongoing and increasingly focused global challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Acute food insecurity today is not only widespread \u2013 it is also persistent and frequent.<\/strong>&#8221; <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/news\/acute-food-insecurity-and-malnutrition-remain-alarmingly-high-crises-deepen-un-eu-and-partners\">Said<\/a> United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO)<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/home\/en\/\">fao<\/a>) Director-General Qu Dongyu warned that the crisis has become structural rather than temporary.<\/p>\n<h2>oppose primary driver<\/h2>\n<p>Conflict remains the primary driver, with more than half of the population facing severe hunger.<\/p>\n<p>In ten countries \u2013 Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Sudan, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic and Yemen \u2013 two-thirds of people face high levels of acute hunger.<\/p>\n<p>at the extreme end, <strong>Famine confirmed in Gaza and parts of Sudan by 2025<\/strong> &#8211; For the first time since reporting began, two separate famines have been recorded in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This report is a call to action,&#8221; United Nations <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/\">Secretary General Antonio Guterres<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/news\/acute-food-insecurity-and-malnutrition-remain-alarmingly-high-crises-deepen-un-eu-and-partners\">Said<\/a> In the preface, &#8220;<strong>Calling for the political will to rapidly increase investment in life-saving assistance and work to end the conflicts that cause so much suffering to so many people<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>The report also highlights that <strong>sharp increase in severity of hunger<\/strong>. More than 39 million people in 32 countries faced emergency levels of food insecurity, while the number of people experiencing catastrophic hunger has increased ninefold since 2016.<\/p>\n<div class=\"context-un_news_wide_uncropped_credit_caption type-entermedia_image media media--type-entermedia-image media--view-mode-un-news-wide-uncropped-credit-caption\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-thumbnail field--type-image field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<\/div>\n<p>The number of people facing high levels of acute food insecurity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Children are suffering the consequences<\/h2>\n<p>One of the most affected are children. In 2025, <strong>35.5 million children were acutely undernourished, including approximately 10 million suffering from severe malnutrition<\/strong> &#8211; A life-threatening condition that dramatically increases the risk of death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Children with severe wasting are too thin for their height. Pictured here, a family in an IDP camp in the east of the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>decline in funding<\/h2>\n<p>Despite the scale of the crisis, the report warns that funding is heading in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p>humanitarian and development <strong>Funding for food and nutrition responses has returned to levels seen almost a decade ago<\/strong>Limiting the ability of governments and aid organizations to respond effectively.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the data gap is also increasing.
