In a voice note sent to fans on Wednesday, the what was that<\/i> The singer shared that her contract with Universal Music Group (UMG) has expired.<\/p>\n
Lorde signed with UMG in 2009 and four years later, dropped her chart-topping debut single, Royals.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the end of last year, my label deal \u2013 my record contract with Universal \u2013 expired,\u201d she began. “I’ve been under that contract in some form or another for a very, very long time… since I was 12 years old when I got my first development deal with Universal.”<\/p>\n
Lorde continued, “I’ve had an amazing experience with them. But the truth is that a 12-year-old girl had already sold her creative output before she knew what it would be like, and before she knew what she was signing,” Lorde continued. <\/p>\n
The 29-year-old musician said he is happy to have found “another one” where nothing is being “bought or sold” from him. <\/p>\n
“When I see an opportunity for a clean slate, I try to take it. And it feels different… I feel a sense of openness and possibility, and I’m inspired. It feels exciting to remove the container or something for a second,” ribs<\/i> Hitmaker added.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere in the voice note, Lorde also revealed that her goal is to get a driver’s license before she turns 30 in November.<\/p>\n
“I’m studying for my permit… I have to be a licensed driver before I’m 30,” she joked.<\/p>\n
It comes after Lollapalooza organizers announced earlier this week that Lorde, alongside Charli XCX and Tate McRae, will headline the upcoming edition of the US festival.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
