1 <\/sup>Israel traveled with everything he had until he came to Beersheba, where he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. 2 <\/sup>God called to Israel in a vision at night, “Jacob, Jacob!”<\/span><\/p>\nJacob said, “I’m here.”<\/span><\/p>\n3 <\/sup>He said, \u201cI am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go to Egypt, for there I will make you a great nation. <\/span> 4 <\/sup>I will go with you to Egypt, and I will surely bring you back. And the hand of Joseph will close your eyes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n5 <\/sup>Jacob departed from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel loaded their father Jacob, his children, and his wives onto the carts that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. <\/span> 6 <\/sup>And they took their livestock and their property that they had acquired in the land of Canaan and came to Egypt, that is, Jacob and all his descendants, <\/span> 7 <\/sup>His sons and his grandsons, his daughters and his granddaughters. So he brought all his children with him to Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n8 <\/sup>These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt, that is, Jacob and his sons:<\/span><\/p>\n\n
Reuben was Jacob’s first son. <\/span> 9 <\/sup>Reuben’s sons were Enoch,<\/span>
\nPallu, Hezron, and Carmi.<\/span>
\n10 <\/sup>Simeon’s sons were Samuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and<\/span>
\nSaul, son of a Canaanite woman.<\/span>
\n11 <\/sup>Levi’s sons were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.<\/span>
\n12 <\/sup>The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez and Zerah, but Er<\/span>
\nAnd Onan died in the land of Canaan. Perez was the son of<\/span>
\nHezron and Hamul.<\/span>
\n13 <\/sup>The sons of Issachar were Tola, Puvah, Job, (1)<\/sup> And Shimron.<\/span>
\n14 <\/sup>Zebulun’s sons were Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.<\/span>
\n15 <\/sup>These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan.<\/span>

And so they reached the land of Goshen. <\/span> 29 <\/sup>Joseph prepared his chariot and went to meet his father Israel at Goshen. He came to her, hugged her and kept crying on her shoulder for a long time. <\/span> 30 <\/sup>Israel said to Joseph, Now I am ready to die, because I have seen you face to face, and you are still alive.<\/span><\/p>\n31 <\/sup>Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, ‘I will go and speak to Pharaoh, and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me. <\/span> 32 <\/sup>These people are shepherds. They make their living by looking after the animals, and they have brought with them their sheep, goats, cattle and everything they own.’ <\/span> 33 <\/sup>When Pharaoh calls you and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’ So this is what you should say. <\/span> 34 <\/sup>You will say, your servants, we and our forefathers have been shepherds of animals since our childhood till now. Ask for the right to live in the land of Goshen, because every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n

1 <\/sup>Then Joseph went and said to Pharaoh, My father and my brothers have come from the land of Canaan with their sheep, their herds, and everything they own, and are now in the land of Goshen. 2 <\/sup>He took his five brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.<\/span><\/p>\n3 <\/sup>Pharaoh said to his brothers, what is your occupation?<\/span><\/p>\nThey answered Pharaoh, We and our ancestors are your servants, shepherds. <\/span> 4 <\/sup>They said to Pharaoh, We have come to this land to live as strangers, because there is a severe famine in the land of Canaan, so your servants have no pasture for their sheep and goats. Therefore now let your servants live in the land of Goshen.<\/span><\/p>\n5 <\/sup>Pharaoh answered Joseph, \u201cYour father and your brothers have come to you. <\/span> 6 <\/sup>Egypt is open for you. Make arrangements for your father and brothers to live in the best country. Let them settle in the land of Goshen. If you know any capable man among them, then appoint him in charge of my animals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n7 <\/sup>Joseph brought his father Jacob and presented him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. <\/span> 8 <\/sup>Pharaoh said to Jacob, How many days and years will you live?<\/span><\/p>\n9 <\/sup>Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days and years of my wanderings are one hundred and thirty years. The days and years of my life have been few and full of suffering, and they have not been compared to the days and years of my ancestors’ wanderings. <\/span> 10 <\/sup>Jacob blessed Pharaoh and went out from Pharaoh.<\/span><\/p>\n11 <\/sup>As per Pharaoh’s orders, Joseph settled his father and brothers, and gave them property in the best part of Egypt, that is, in the land of Ramesses. <\/span> 12 <\/sup>Joseph provided food for his father, his brothers, and his father’s entire household, depending on the number of their families.<\/span><\/p>\n
