Multiple drop opportunities bent the pace of the game again and again.

PBKS remained the only undefeated team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season as they successfully chased down the mammoth target of 265 runs within the limit of 20 overs. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer demolished the home team Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals fielder Karun Nair dropped a sitter from Shreyas Iyer.

Karun Nari proved to be the villain for Delhi Capitals as he dropped two chances for Shreyas Iyer. In the 15th over of the second innings, DC’s substitute fielder Karun Nari dropped a full sitter. When Iyer was dropped from the team for the second time, he was 29 years old. The first catch from Nair was dropped in 14.6 overs.

After the match, DC captain Axar Patel looked quite disappointed with the lack of cluster fielding efforts by his team. That’s the main point. It was a good pitch and a small ground, so sixes were always going to be hit. However, when opportunities come, and you don’t take even one, you give up chances, like we did today,” Axar Patel said without naming Karun Nair.

He further added, “On such wickets, if you don’t support your bowlers, it becomes difficult. Also, we need to look at our bowling unit. The way we bowled in the powerplay, the fast bowlers, the fielding and the chances we missed were the main reasons.”

Chasing the target of 265 runs was very difficult even on a batting friendly track and that too easily. During the early stages of the first innings, when the Delhi Capitals openers were unable to settle down on the pitch, PBKS fielder Shashank Singh dropped a simple catch. Rahul finished his innings with a brilliant unbeaten 152 off 67 balls, which is the highest individual run recorded by any Indian batsman in the history of the Indian Premier League.

Since PBKS won the match, there was not much discussion about Shashank Singh’s catch drop moment. Despite the loss, KL Rahul was awarded the Player of the Match award. PBKS won the match because of its team’s strategy. Before Shreyas Iyer’s innings, it was Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya who provided a solid base for Punjab to make the historic run chase possible.

Read More: Watch: Preity Zinta punches Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings teammate, video breaks the internet amid IPL 2026

The Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings (DC vs PBKS) match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday not only turned out to be an exhibition for the batsmen but also saw a lot of dropped catches.
