We still don’t know much about how the situation was handled or whether it was resolved amicably, but Reuters reports that during the 10 pm to 6 am shift on April 23 and April 24, several workers at the Samsung factory complex in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul, walked off the job to protest. For reference, like almost every foundry, this facility operates 24\/7 in three shifts.<\/p>\n
Details, as we said, are scarce, but according to the labor union, the workers present demanded higher wages. Although we don’t know whether those demands were met, Reuters reports that chipset production and memory production at the facility declined by 58% and 18%, respectively. While this may not seem like much, even small disruptions in chip manufacturing can potentially impact large-scale orders and deliveries because those operations have extremely tight schedules and tolerances. Obviously, the protest was also meant to last a long time, so hopefully everything will be resolved and it won’t have any impact on chip supply.<\/p>\n
