Don’t despise small beginnings
“Who despises the day of small talk?” -Zechariah 4:10
Have you ever had an idea for something? Probably, if you have an idea for a business, you might have imagined a beautiful tall skyscraper with bright blue windows and your company’s name on the side. You imagine your 500 smiling employees working within an immaculate facility that is, of course, owned by you and your board of directors, all working together with complete ease.
But, for now, you have received your business license in the mail. It’s almost the only piece of inventory you have. And the landlord just called and your rent is late. Your mind makes a crash landing straight on the sidewalk of reality.
So then, how do dreams match the reality of life? How can we hope to accomplish the things we feel God has placed within us? Are our dreams too high? Unrealistic? Too ambitious? Arrogant? mindless? Idiot?
Joseph’s dreams were considered lofty and unrealistic. His brothers considered him arrogant. It took a long time for his dream to be fulfilled. But, he never stopped dreaming. And he knew that his dreams were from God, no matter what anyone said. The important thing is that Joseph allowed God to work out His purposes in him. He surrendered and allowed God to use his “dreaming” ability for His purpose.
Giant sequoias are known as the largest trees in the world. But did you know that their seeds are even smaller than sunflower seeds?
Don’t be discouraged if your dream seems too grand. If the seed is created or birthed by God, then with time, water, and care, it will grow bigger than your wildest imagination.
