For most people, committing to something as adventurous as a pixie cut may seem like a big decision, but I’m here to tell you from personal experience that it’s a low-maintenance dream. Currently, I have shoulder-length curly hair, but my first experience with pixie cuts was when I was just six years old, when my mother insisted that I get a big cut before the first day of school.
It took about a year and a half for me to be compared to Halle Berry around 1992, and although I didn’t understand the compliment at the time, I remember it fondly because that haircut of hers was iconic. But as an adult, I can’t deny that I find pixie cuts extremely attractive, and if you’ve been paying attention to the latest red carpet events, chances are you’ve noticed that longer pixie cuts, in particular, are on the rise again.
“I think people are leaning toward a little bit wilder and more deliberate styles,” says Celebrity Hair Stylist Mia Santiago. She says the way it highlights bone structure points to people wanting a “clean” look, which is much more different than that. Long, layered styles. “The pixie is all about making a statement – it’s bold, eye-catching, flirty and really anyone can wear it,” she adds. Celebrity hair stylist and curl expert Brendanetta Ashley. “With a tailored cut, it’s all about who you are and showing it off.”
Now, I know you may be questioning whether or not you can pull off a long pixie (as many people often do), but if you need further proof that you can, just take a look at these 25 celeb inspo photos below.

How to Choose the Right Pixie Cut for Every Face Shape
Anyone can pull off a long pixie cut, but getting a style that’s specifically suited to your face shape is the key to making it work. Here’s a quick rundown from our experts:
Oval: Both hairstylists agree that this face shape can pull off any cut, but if you have curls, ashley suggests trying a curly fringe with tapered edges.
Round: for straight hair, santiago Note that round faces can opt for height and volume to elongate their face shape. ashley Note that those with curly hair may do especially well with deep side parts.
Social class: “Square looks best with soft texture and movement to break up the jawline,” says santiago. For curls, try a rounder cut that can be swept to the side ashley.
Diamond: “The heart shape benefits from a long fringe and a little weight near the jaw, so it’s more Bob meets the pixie,” says santiago.
Heart: “For a heart-shaped face, consider a full curly bang and a slightly longer pixie,” says ashley. “This will soften a narrow chin.”
rectangle: Both experts agree that rectangular faces can add more width than height to shorten the face. “Avoid short pixie, choose more mid-length,” says ashley.
How to Style a Long Pixie Cut
Recreating the look you get at the salon may seem like an uphill battle, but this look is so low-maintenance that it’s actually easier than you think. As you guessed, it all depends on the products. “Texturizers add grit, which keeps hair from frizzing,” says santiago. “I like to add a little pomade, like Shaping Fibers from Philip B.”
If you have curly hair, your options may look a little different because you’ll need to consider things like curl patterns and shrinkage. For good curls, ashley Recommends a light mousse or foam. Thicker curls will require curl cream and light gel. And for flyaways, apply leave-in to damp hair before drying.
