Kanye West has been banned and canceled in several cities in Europe where he was invited to perform. Yet there is one country where his show is still running.
Portugal.
Organizers say there are no objections so far in the country to the Grammy winner’s concert to be held at the Algarve Stadium on August 7.
Raya Culture CEO Torquato George told Euronews, “This is a concert that is going to happen. This would become an issue if the services identified a national threat to public order, which is not the case.”
Additionally, the head of the event said that Portugal’s internal intelligence agency, SIS, had not flagged Ye as a threat.
“SIS has not identified the artist, or in this case the US citizen, as a national threat or terrorist. There must be a state homeland security report stating that this citizen cannot enter the country.”
Finally George says, “Each country is free to decide whether or not to allow a citizen to enter, but there is no country in the EU that has vetoed their entry into national territory.”
The previously canceled West concert was canceled at the last minute, so the message from the organizers of his event in Portugal arouses cautious optimism among the rapper’s fans.
