    TL;DR

    • Google has optimized Gemini for Home device commands, making response times faster.
    • Gemini is also better at interpreting context and conversations in your home to reduce errors and interruptions.
    • If you have any payment issues, Google Home Premium will now temporarily pause your subscription instead of terminating it.

It’s been almost six months since Gemini for Google Home launched. Since then, it has received several updates, most recently improving the way it manages notes and lists. Now, Google is bringing some more updates that will make the voice assistant faster and more reliable.

Today, the tech giant announced It has optimized how Gemini for Home recognizes device commands, allowing faster response times. Google claims that controlling a light or plug is 1.5 seconds faster than before. It has also made alarm, timer, and reminder commands more responsive. Basic commands, such as “set a timer for 10 minutes”, are now processed more efficiently for almost instant execution.

In addition to speed, Google has also improved Gemini’s ability to interpret the context of your home and conversations, which should reduce errors and interruptions. For example, voice assistants are better able to understand when a request is a standalone command or a follow-up. It is also better to ignore irrelevant speech.

Meanwhile, custom routines have been made more consistent. In particular, how Gemini handles your custom routines has been adjusted so that they run without interference from other smart home commands.

Along with this news from Gemini, the company also shared an update for Home Premium subscription. Google is introducing account holds, which will temporarily pause your subscription if there’s a payment issue. Previously, a payment issue would cause your subscription to expire, which could result in you losing video history, event details, and more. This should come in handy if you forget when your credit card expires, or any other issue comes up.
