of apple AirPods are some of best wireless earbuds You can buy. They’re also small, easy to lose and unfortunately, quite expensive to replace. Given their design, it is very common for one of them to fall out of your ears. It’s also easy to lose sight of the matter completely.

Thankfully, your AirPods have a built-in feature that makes them easier to find, or at least easier than other earbuds. Apple’s Find My app is built into every iPhone, ipad And mac. I often use it to play sounds to locate my iPhone around my house, but sometimes I use the same tool to find a lost AirPod. Here’s how to use the Find My app to locate a lost AirPod.

With a few caveats, finding your AirPods only takes a few taps.

Make sure Find My is set

Before you can use the Find My app to locate anything you’ve lost, make sure it’s set up. Open it and double check whether Find My is on or not settings app, tap your name at the top of the screen, then select find my. Next, tap find my iphone And move the switch to ON position. As long as Find My is enabled, your Apple Watch and AirPods will automatically be added to the app. You can’t activate your AirPods and use Find My for them after you lose them, so do this step now. I will wait.

    Done? ok good.

How to Find Your Lost AirPods, AirPods Pro or AirPods Max

After realizing that your AirPod is nowhere to be found, take a deep breath, grab your iPhone and Open Find My Application. tap equipment Tab, then find and select your AirPods in the list. Alternatively, you can use your computer for travel iCloud.com/find To help find your lost devices.

If your AirPods are within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, you’ll see their current location on a map and you’ll have the option to play sound on one or both earbuds. Tap play sound And start listening to the chirping sound coming from each earbud. If an AirPod is in the charging case, it will not play any sound.

The sound will gradually become louder after playing for two minutes. If you can hear it, but can’t find it before the sound stops, tap play sound again.

You can switch which AirPod is playing sound by tapping l Or R button in the Find My app. When you find both AirPods, tap to stop.

There are some situations when Find My won’t work

Finding a lost AirPod is easy as long as it’s out of the case, still charged, and close enough to your iPhone. In a situation where the AirPods are not within range for your phone to trigger sound, you should still see the last location your phone had a connection to them. You can get directions to their last known location, where hopefully your phone can find them and then play the sound.

If you’ve lost your AirPods while in the case, your chances of finding them are significantly reduced. You probably won’t see their last location on the map, and you won’t have the option to play sound. However, there’s still the possibility that another Apple device user finds them, opens the case, and the Find My app is able to tell you that they were found. Sure, it’s a tall order, but it’s better than nothing.

For those who have airpods maxThe warnings are slightly different. If your AirPods Max are in their case, your iPhone can find them for up to 18 hours. If they’re outside the Smart Case, you’ll have 72 hours to connect to them and trigger a sound.

After you find your AirPods, take a few minutes to make sure you can Find your iPhone if you ever lose it. Need some AirPods tips?
