I love Claude. But I hate it too. That’s the simplest way to describe my experience after switching from Google Gemini to Anthropic’s AI.

I have been using the cloud daily for over a month. While the initial honeymoon phase was full of impressive and authentic conversations, the novelty is wearing off, and I’m starting to miss Gemini. But switching back completely doesn’t feel right either. here’s why.

Which AI chatbot do you prefer?

    authenticity over flattery

Talking to Claude feels fundamentally different from talking to Gemini. It feels more human, mainly because Claude isn’t afraid to hold back.

It has no problem telling me I’m wrong and is constantly challenging my way of thinking. While Gemini also generally does this, Claude takes it to a more realistic level. This makes me feel like I am interacting with a professional in a specific field and not an assistant trying to flatter me.

Fluff is also very less in this. Geminis have a tendency to be overly complimentary of every prompt, often beginning a response with, “That’s the best possible question you could have asked,” even if the question is basic. Claude gets to the point quickly, saving me from rolling my eyes ten times a day.

Organization: Projects vs. Just a Long List

One area where the cloud objectively wins is the Projects feature. This is Anthropic’s answer to Geminis James, and it’s simply a better implementation.

In the cloud, I can organize conversations into specific projects. For example, I have a fitness project where I keep track of my workout plans, diet, and training issues. Each chat is neatly hidden, making it easy to find specific information later.

In contrast, Gemini still relies on a huge, chronological list of chats in the left-hand menu. Once you’ve had a few dozen conversations, figuring out who a specific signal from three weeks ago becomes a task. The cloud also includes a “Project Knowledge” section where I can upload specific documents I want the AI to always remember in that context — a feature that feels much more cohesive than Google’s current offering.

Every AI has limitations, but Gemini’s approach here is really disappointing. On the Gemini payment plan, you never really know how close you are to the limit until you hit a wall and are asked to come back tomorrow.

The cloud system is much more transparent. This provides a visual indicator of your usage within the current rolling window. Seeing that status bar helps me speed up my work so that I don’t get left out in the middle of something important.

    magic of artifacts

I’m really impressed by the convenience of the artifacts. Cloud was able to create an app based on my prompts that worked perfectly. I tried a few different things, from to-do apps that mimic my favorite apps I use on Android, to money management apps that keep me on top of my finances.

It’s incredible how fast and efficient these apps are. Work that previously required weeks of coding can be done in mere minutes with simple text prompts with the cloud. Granted, you have to be very precise with your signals to avoid problems, but building apps has become much easier with the cloud.

Of course, there are other steps if I really want to use it outside of the cloud and put it on the Play Store, and I certainly haven’t gone that far, but it’s still pretty impressive what it can do in a short amount of time. The AI is known as the best coder, beating Gemini and the rest of its competitors.

    Where Gemini still reigns supreme

Despite being better in many ways, Cloud lags far behind Gemini in many areas. The first issue I noticed is how fast I reach the cloud limit. I don’t think I ever exceeded any limits on Gemini’s paid plan, while I was only able to reach the weekly cloud limit within three days. Considering its a $20 per month subscription, I think the limits should be increased significantly.

Then there are all the extra features. Image making is what I miss most. Gemini can not only create realistic looking images but also edit them with perfection. And Veo can create 3 short videos showing what the AI can do.

I had to go back to the Gemini for its image creation capabilities.

The cloud doesn’t have any image or video creation features, which is why I had to switch back to Gemini after the first week just for images. I also like Gemini’s guided learning feature that asks questions and makes me think about the problem or topic I’m working on. Not everyone is a fan, but I am, and it’s something I’ve missed since moving to the cloud.

The cloud also has problems accessing specific websites I link to. For example, I added a link to a piece of clothing I purchased, asking if I could put it in the tumble dryer without it shrinking. In many of these cases, Cloud was not able to access the page for whatever reason and see what was on it, whereas Gemini had no such issues.

Then there’s the voice mode, in which the Gemini is far better and less buggy. I found it both sad and amusing that while talking to Cloud on the desktop, the mic on my desk picked up Cloud’s response, and the AI thought it was me talking when it was actually hearing my own voice. After this it started talking to itself, which continued forever. It’s worth noting that I haven’t experienced this problem in the past week, so it looks like Anthropic has fixed it.

Additionally, due to the switch to the cloud, I also lost Access to various integrations with Google services like YouTube Music.

    and the winners are

None of these. Although at first glance they seem very similar, there are enough differences between them to make the entire experience completely different. I prefer Claude’s projects to Gemini’s gems, and I generally prefer to interact with Claude than Gemini on most topics. With that in mind, I’m sticking with the cloud for most of my usage.

However, I wouldn’t give up on Gemini completely. As I reach my limits on the cloud, this is the AI I turn to. I also use it to draw pictures. For example, I’m in the process of remodeling my wardrobe, and since I’m not fashion-oriented, I’m having a hard time figuring out what looks good or bad on me. Gemini was able to create my photos in different styles and color combinations, and helped me find my style with the color palette. This is something Claude can’t really help me with, as it doesn’t have proper image generation capabilities.

Chatbots are tools that help us get work done, and each of them is different. A different job requires a different tool, so rather than declare one chatbot the winner, I’ll continue to use both. How are you? Let me know in the comments.
