Apple is unveiling iOS 27 on June 8 during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, and this version of the OS is already expected to include the launch of the oft-delayed Smart Siri, powered by Google’s Gemini model.
This won’t be the only AI enhancements in iOS 27. a new report bloomberg Three new features coming to the Photos app today are detailed. A new Apple Intelligence Tools section will be found in its editing interface. It will have four features: Expand, Enhance, Reframe and Clear.
Extend will let you generate additional image content beyond the original frame. You’ll control how much is added and where by extending the edges of the image with your fingers.
Enhance will use AI to automatically improve colors, lighting, and “overall image quality,” whatever that means.
ReFrame is designed for spatial photos, a 3D format created for the Vision Pro headset. This will let you change the perspective after taking the shot.
Clean Up is already in the Photos app, and it’s currently the only AI-powered editing tool available. It lets you remove objects from images, and will likely continue to do so in iOS 27.
Interestingly, Bloomberg’s sources claim that development of the new AI features has not gone smoothly, with Extend and Reframe not performing reliably during internal testing. With this in mind, Apple may delay or reduce these features. There are already a lot of complaints about clean up, which can sometimes leave behind artifacts, distort images, or fill in deleted areas with incorrect detail.
