There has been beef for years on the East and West Coast. (Who has it better? Matcha, music, and summer weather?) One thing they can surprisingly agree on are spring trends. Just last week, I spent a few days in West Hollywood with our friends and fellow Who What Wear editors at our West Coast outpost. One thing I noticed was that women in Los Angeles and women in New York dressed the same way – so much so that our exact product recommendations were the same.
While you might think that West Coast and East Coast style are polar opposites, I’ve found that stylish women in both cities are more alike than different. From our love of silk pants to our adoration of tiny lace-trimmed shorts, the same spring trends are top of our minds, and frankly, they should be top of your mind too.
Below, shop the best spring trends for women in LA NYC agrees.
Spring trends are popular in LA and NYC
satin pants
Satin pants are nothing new, but major fashion players are embracing the lightweight but expensive-looking style to wear with white tanks and barn jackets on cool spring days. I saw a lot of women in LA wearing black, chocolate brown and bright colors – just like New Yorkers style them.

striped shirt
Striped-shirt nation, rise. These cute short sleeve and long sleeve tees are on trend. Both NYC and LA women are styling these with color-blocked bottoms, tube socks, and worn-in loafers for a preppy look.
lace-trim pieces
Romantic elements are practically a spring staple, and fashion people are taking an interest in it. Spotted in both Tribeca and West Hollywood, women are choosing satin shorts, slip skirts and even delicate lace trim on sweet dresses and camisoles.
Flip-Flop Kitten Heels
Warm weather is here, which means sandals are out. Women in NYC and LA love basic flip-flops for a funky, night-time look. With a slight heel, the silhouette transforms from a Venice Beach-approved style you might wear to getting a nightcap in sunny West Hollywood.
sporty bottoms
Like the striped-rugby-shirt trend, sporty bottoms (e.g., running shorts, striped track pants, etc.) are having a moment. When paired with eye-catching elements like a leather shoulder bag or button-down shirt, they transform gym attire into something elevated and cool.
glove ballet flat
Glove ballet flats are always a good idea. Soft leather, suede and pebbled textures are an interesting way to add texture and dimension to otherwise boring shoes. The best part? Even though women in LA love this trend, New Yorkers are definitely ruling it. Comfortable shoes are always a priority when you’re walking more than 10 miles a day.
low-rise jeans
“Easy, comfortable, and stylish” seems to be the sartorial mantra for women in LA and NYC this spring. Perfectly wear slouchy low-rise jeans, a clear winner for busy women on the go.
