Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mohsin Khan thanked veteran India fast bowler Mohammed Shami for supporting him during his injury rehabilitation. The left-arm pacer revealed that Shami guided him ahead of IPL 2026, helping him overcome the physical and mental challenges following a major surgery.

Lucknow Super Giants are currently at the bottom of the points table. Mohsin recently recorded impressive bowling figures of 5/23 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Earlier in the tournament, the young fast bowler had also bowled a maiden over against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and dismissed opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

People expect to see me like that… – Mohsin Khan thanks Mohammed Shami

In a video shared by LSG, Mohsin Khan credited Mohammed Shami for acting like an elder brother and providing constant inspiration. Mohsin said he used the training equipment given by Shami during his 15-month rehabilitation and focused on living up to the fans’ expectations.

“It was about 14-15 months since the operation. Shami bhai helped me a lot there. I will use all his equipment. He supported me a lot. People expect to see me the same as I was before the surgery, so that is my goal.”

Mohsin has taken an average of nine wickets 11.33 and economy rate 6.38 So far this season. Lucknow Super Giants have retained the left-arm pacer for 2022 despite a serious shoulder injury that almost cost him his arm and a calf injury last year that limited his movement.

He was so scared that he couldn’t even walk or run – Mohammed Shami on Mohsin Khan

Mohammed Shami described the fear that Mohsin Khan felt when he returned to training for the first time. Shami said he spoke to doctors to confirm that it was safe before encouraging the young fast bowler to overcome his hesitations with jogging and catching practice.

“When he came, it was a very difficult time. He was so scared that he couldn’t even walk or run. At first he felt a little uncomfortable. I asked him, ‘What are you afraid of?’ ‘I just got off my crutches, so I can’t find the confidence to jog comfortably,’ he said. So, I talked to the doctors and said, ‘Don’t worry. Even if something small happens, you will come to know. As long as he’s here, let him be.”

Shami himself suffered a serious ankle injury after the 2023 World Cup and took a long time to recover before returning for the 2025 Champions Trophy. He understands the challenges of regaining momentum after such failures.

Told them to stop whenever they feel even the slightest discomfort – Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami told how he kept a close eye on Mohsin Khan’s recovery. He advised the young fast bowler to keep pushing himself during training but to stop immediately if he felt any discomfort, thereby ensuring a safe and steady comeback.

“Within 3-4 days, she started catching and jogging. Told her to stop whenever she feels slight discomfort. But until that happens, you keep doing it. Otherwise, we will go back 5-6 months.”

Shami and Mohsin together have taken 16 wickets for Lucknow Super Giants this season. Fellow fast bowler Prince Yadav has also played a key role in the current IPL campaign, taking 13 wickets.
