A few months ago, a Google executive suggested that Gemini was in line for a visual refresh. More recently, we’ve also seen hints that the app may get animated backgrounds that react dynamically to what you ask. Now, that change may finally be taking shape.
A Reddit user, taxold2989has shared what appears to be a redesigned version of the Gemini app running on the iPhone. Right in the center, there’s a fluid, animated background flowing beneath theWhat should we focus on?” text, anchored by the Gemini logo. The motion seems to respond subtly, adding a layer of feedback that the current UI doesn’t have. The result is a screen that feels active, as if the app is synchronizing with you.
There are functional changes as well. The “+” button at the bottom now opens a comprehensive set of tools, including options for images, camera input, music, canvas, in-depth research, guided learning, and additional uploads. It really pulls together more of Gemini’s capabilities into a single, easily accessible hub.

On iOS, the redesign puts a Liquid Glass-style aesthetic front and center with semi-transparent layers, soft motion, and UI elements that feel like they’re slowly floating. This is a marked change from the flatter, more staid look of the Gemini so far.
The interface feels more open, with better distance between elements and a sense of depth that makes everything easier on the eyes. For a device built around conversation, that added sense of presence goes a long way, making the experience compelling enough to return to.
After seeing the post, I went straight to check the Gemini app on my iPhone 17, but the redesign was not visible yet. A quick scroll through Reddit answers tells a similar story; A lot of users are still waiting, suggesting a slow, phased rollout rather than a widespread release.
However, for now, this early glimpse seems to be limited to iOS, with no clear signs of a redesign visible yet on Android. Given how gradual this rollout already appears to be, Android users may have to wait a little longer before seeing these changes on their devices.
