I often use Google’s AI Overview to get a summary of the information I need when I run a search. But overviews rarely provide enough detail to fully answer my question. That’s why I always consult the sources used to prepare the summary. With this in mind, Google has enhanced its AI overview with five new features designed to better represent the subject of your search.
1. Look for advice from other people
Sometimes when I search for information on a particular topic, I want to hear from other people who have knowledge or experience in that area. For example, perhaps I’m looking for help about what type of food to feed my cat, given that she has a sensitive stomach. And I would like to hear from fellow cat owners their opinions on this issue.
Now, AI Overview will show you other people’s recommendations. These comments, appearing in a section called Expert Advice, will appear as brief comments from people via discussion forums, social media and other online sources. Each comment will show you the name of the person or forum and include a link that will take you to the entire discussion. From there, you can read more comments about your topic and even join the discussion if you want.

As an example given by Google, perhaps you are trying to figure out how to take the best photos of the northern lights. When you run a Google search on this topic, you may see comments from online photography forums with advice on exposure times and other elements, as well as clickable links to take you to the entire conversation.
2. Access your news subscriptions
I rely on some favorite news sources like ZDNET, which I would consult in a Google search. But those sources are not always easily accessible from AI observation. To remove that barrier, Google will now highlight links to your news subscriptions directly in AI mode and AI overview. You can then easily click on the link of the news source to see the full story to better answer your question.

3. See links to sources in the summary
AI can make mistakes. This is another reason why I always consult the original sources used in the Google AI overview. But those sources aren’t always easy to see or access. To help you see the correct sources, Google will now include links to them right next to the relevant text in AI summaries.

As an example from Google, you might be searching for information about going on a bike-riding trip in California. In response, the AI overview displays a series of bullet points with details of such a trip. With the latest update, the summary can now add a link to a Pacific Coast bike touring guide next to a bullet point about terrain or a link to a blog post about bike ride training next to a bullet point about daily mileage.
4. Explore Additional Sources
In addition to looking at the original sources used to generate the AI overview, I sometimes want to access even more original sources on the topic. Toward this end, Google is adding a new section with suggestions on other sites for consultation. This section, appearing below the AI summary, will contain links to articles or analyzes on different aspects of the same topic.

For example, maybe you’re investigating how cities are adding more green space to their environments. Below the AI summary there might be a case study on how Seoul is successfully restoring its streams or a report on how architects designed New York City’s High Line park.
5. Preview linked websites in summary
Google’s AI overview generally includes links to relevant websites. But you have to click on the actual link to know what the site offers. Now, when you hover over a link on a website, Google will display a quick preview of it. The preview will show you the name or title of the site so you can better decide whether it’s worth visiting or not.
I know sometimes I hesitate to click on a link on a site without knowing where it will take me. The preview is designed to help people feel more comfortable visiting sites involving AI observations.
