Prince William is honoring rugby player Leigh Halfpenny for her remarkable career.
The athlete, who has earned 101 caps for Wales and played four British & Irish Lions test matches, recently announced his retirement from all professional rugby at the end of the current season on May 5, 2026 and
The future king, who is also patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, praised his service in a congratulatory message posted to his Instagram Stories.
Praising Leigh’s extraordinary contribution to the game, William wrote, “Congratulations to Leigh Halfpenny on an excellent representation of Wales and the British & Irish Lions.
”A player who demonstrated courage, professionalism and humility in every chapter of the game. Your dedication to rugby has inspired many, and your achievements will be remembered.”
”Wishing you all the best for the future,” the Prince of Wales concluded and signed his note with his initial “W”.
Williams also reposted a photo of Leigh in action on the field, uploaded to the Welsh Rugby Union’s Instagram page.
Prince William, who has spoken publicly about supporting Wales in rugby, has served as Patron of Wales Rugby since 2016. Earlier he had served as Deputy Conservator.
