If you’re craving a sizable fashion event that feels equal parts community gathering, luxury shopping experience, and fashion insider’s dream? Mark your calendars now, because shapely pop up A place to live is about to be built in Los Angeles.
Occupying the Arts District on 16 May, shapely pop up The Independent is bringing together a group of size-inclusive designers, celebrity stylists, vintage archivists, influential closet salespeople and fashion lovers for a shopping experience specifically created with plus size and medium size shoppers in mind. And honestly? It’s refreshing to see a program focused on us in the fashion landscape that has quickly pushed back on size inclusivity.
At a time when plus-size shoppers are watching beloved brands disappear, extended sizes are quietly disappearing, and luxury fashion is feeling out of reach, this program feels less like a pop-up and more like a statement.
Because plus size fashion lovers deserve access to beautiful clothes, emerging designers, archival fashion, and spaces that truly prioritize them.
A fashion collective was created By And For plus size women
The curvy pop up features an impressive lineup of contemporary designers including BAACAL, Melissa Mercedes, Zélie for She, Viva Voce and Byvinique.
Leading the charge is designer Cynthia Vincent, whose work in fashion spans decades. By Cynthia Vincent Vincent, known for launching labels like Vince and Twelfth Street, created BAACAL after struggling to find high fashion in her size.
And honestly? That lived experience matters.

“We are thrilled to be together as creatives and designers who have dedicated their work to designing for plus size women, at a time when representation of curvy bodies has almost disappeared from fashion,” Vincent shared.
He is not wrong.
Over the past few years, we have seen one brand after another introducing massive plus offers and asking plus size consumers to remain loyal. So seeing independent designers create their own ecosystem of support, visibility and access feels deeply intentional.
Yes, You Can Shop Celebrity Stylist Archives in Plus Sizes
Now let’s talk about the part that made us do a double take.
Celebrity stylist Timothy Snell, whose client roster includes projects for Queen Latifah, Whitney Houston and Tyler Perry, is opening up his fashion archives to buyers.
Not replicas. Not “inspired by”. Genuine archival and custom designer pieces.

According to Snell, attendees can expect custom commissions and archival looks in sizes 14, 16 and 18 from designers including Gucci, Dior, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander McQueen and Sergio Hudson.
Read it again slowly.
It’s already difficult to find luxury designer fashion in extended sizes. Archival celebrity style pieces in those sizes? Almost unheard of.
“If you’ve always wanted to browse and shop Gucci and Dior in sizes 14,16,18, you won’t want to miss this,” Snell said.
And honestly, he might have sold half of Los Angeles with that sentence alone.
More than shopping, it feels like community
In addition to designer racks and celebrity archives, The Curvy Pop Up is also highlighting influential voices in size inclusive fashion through a curated closet sale from stylists, models, and creators.
Attendees will also be able to shop the collections including celebrity stylists and fashion insiders adriana lebaron Artukovich’s shop, Flossie by JihaanAnd Aria said studioWith the sale of the wardrobes of plus size models and influencers like Erica Lauren And jennifer atilemile.
And that’s really the magic here.
It is not just about transactions. It’s about discovery. About presenting fashion as aspirational And Accessible to larger body sizes. It’s about reconnecting plus-size shoppers with the joy of browsing, touching, trying on and being inspired in person.
Especially in a world where so much plus size shopping has been reduced to endless scrolling and hoping that the item looks like the photo.
