The release of new UFO-related documents by the Pentagon has sparked a wave of alien theories and online speculation, even though officials have said there is no confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial life.
The newly released files on Unidentified Paranormal Phenomena, or UAP, include FBI interviews, NASA records and military imagery involving mysterious sightings.
Within hours of the documents being published online, theories flooded social media platforms, claiming that the files are proof that aliens exist or that governments have hidden the information for decades.
A widely discussed document describes an FBI interview with a drone pilot who reported seeing a glowing “linear object” in the sky in 2023.
“The object remained visible for five to ten seconds and then the lights went out and the object disappeared,” the document states.
Users also focused on the NASA image of the Apollo 17 mission in which three points are visible in a triangular formation. The Pentagon said there was “no consensus regarding the nature of the anomaly”.
The Pentagon said President Donald Trump’s administration is committed to “providing maximum transparency to the public.”
However, experts urge caution, warning that many UAP sightings are often attributed to misidentified military technology, optical effects or natural phenomena rather than evidence of alien life.
