When I think of summer fashion, dresses and sandals usually come to mind, the more slinky and strappy, the better. They’re breezy and easy, two qualities I look for when temperatures rise to extreme summer levels. Or, at least, he Was my favorite couple. In the lead up to 2026, I’ve seen some alternative shoe choices that have me questioning my long-term allegiance to sandals, leading to my shoe preferences shifting toward another less traditional shoe trend: the moto boot. Apparently, beautiful 20-year-old girls aren’t as loyal to sandals as I thought we all were, and when they’re looking for shoes to wear with a summer dress, the moto boot is the style they’re grabbing right now — case in point: Olivia Rodrigo.

For the casual occasion, the 23-year-old wore a black drop-waist knee-length dress from local Barcelona brand, Gimaguas, which she paired with Fry Moto boots, Exclusively Campus 14L boots, Ray-Ban sunglasses and a handbag from the Rixo x Dragon Diffusion collaboration. Everyone is talking about the bag at Fashion RN, but it was her dress and shoe combo that immediately caught my attention. Everyone expects people to style a summer dress like hers with flip-flops or strappy sandals, but her choice to replace them with pointed shoes made them ten times cuter and more interesting.
