Sanju Samson’s innings was cut short against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who were in tremendous form before the match, got out cheaply to LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi.
Rathi dismissed Sanju Samson with ease while CSK were in the early stages of the run rate. Samson, who has already scored a few centuries in IPL 2026, was considered one of the biggest threats for the Lucknow Super Giants.
A swing and a miss moment for Sanju Samson
On the fourth ball of the fourth over of the second innings, Rathi uprooted the stumps of the opener. Sanju Samson was out after scoring 28 runs in 14 balls. CSK lost their first batsman for only 45 runs.
Samson had a lot of expectations on his shoulders
Expectations from Sanju Samson were dashed. In his last match, which was against Delhi Capitals, Samson scored an unbeaten 87 runs and helped the team win the match. The interesting thing is that he also scored a century on the same pitch in Chennai. So for legitimate reasons, there were a lot of expectations on his shoulders.
Sanju Samson’s last 5 matches for CSK in IPL 2026 season:
- CSK vs LSG – 28 Runs – Chennai – 10-May-2026
- CSK vs DC – 87* Runs – Delhi – 05-May-2026
- CSK vs MI – 11 Runs – Chennai – 02-May-2026
- CSK vs GT – 11 Runs – Chennai – 26-April-2026
- CSK vs MI – 101* Runs – Wankhede – 23-April-2026
Achieving the goal is not easy. The early dismissal of the star opener was a big blow for Chennai Super Kings. But the team, which had some momentum in their previous outings, began playing as a unit to cover for Samson’s dismissal. While chasing the target of 210 runs against Lucknow Super Giants, young batsman Urvil Patel played a quick-fire, fifty-plus innings. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also played an important inning of 42 runs. Gaikwad and Patel’s partnership helped the team stay on track to achieve the total.
At the time of the toss, the CSK captain talked about the team’s game. Instead of relying on one’s individual performance, the team is attempting to achieve results through pure team play.
“It’s quite positive how the last 7-8 games went for us. It’s a commendable effort from everyone to change it after the first three games which we lost. It’s just that everyone is really positive. Everyone is really keen to change it and just try to keep it as simple as possible,” the Chennai Super Kings captain said at the toss.
