A swarm of earthquakes struck Imperial County this weekend, with dozens of 2.5 to 4.7 magnitude quakes that shook the area around Brawley, south of the Salton Sea.
The most intense earthquake reached 4.7 magnitude shortly after midnight on Sunday, according to United States Geological Survey. Earthquake tremors continued till morning, a 2.7 magnitude earthquake occurred shortly after 7 am
There is no information about anyone being injured. According to the USGS, about 180,000 people experienced mild to strong shaking.
The city of Crawley said it happened Active Its emergency operations center, but there are no reports of significant damage. Residents were encouraged to inspect their properties looking for possible damage from water or gas leaks.
“Community safety remains the city’s top priority,” the city said in a statement.
The first earthquake of 3.5 magnitude occurred at 4:14 pm on Saturday.
Cal OES said Sunday morning they are coordinating with local partners and continuing to “assess developments to help keep Californians safe.”
