Jamie Lynn Sigler talks about the challenges she faced after her son, beau Kyle Dykstra, was diagnosed with Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM).
For those who don’t know, Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis is a rare neurological condition that occurs after a bacterial or viral infection and affects the brain and spinal cord. This condition mostly affects children, which includes symptoms like numbness, headache, weakness and confusion.
People The magazine obtained a clip from the Tuesday, May 12 episode not skinny but not fat Podcast, hosted by Amanda Hirsch, where Sigler reflected on how she dealt with life after receiving her son’s life-changing diagnosis nearly two years ago.
The 44-year-old American actress and singer said Beau “got a rather random virus at camp and on his body.”
“Instead of making antibodies to fight the virus, her body made dumb antibodies and attacked itself,” the Sopranos star revealed.
After Beau started showing symptoms like loss of appetite and a high fever, it took about seven days for doctors to figure out what her son was suffering from, but her “mom’s intuition” told her there was something serious with him even before she was diagnosed with ADEM.
Sigler recalled, “I remember when we were leaving the ER the day before we were finally admitted, they were sending us home again and my legs literally didn’t want to move. I was like, I know in my soul that there is something seriously wrong that they are missing.”
“But we finally had to accept when she lost the ability to urinate, and that’s when they really understood what was happening. And that was the most painful and painful time of my life, but also a moment when I felt more loved and supported than ever before… I learned in that moment who I am and what I have become,” crowd city The actress explained.
It is worth mentioning that Jamie Lynn Sigler shares two children, Beau, 12, and Jack Adam Dykstra, 8, with her husband Cutter Dykstra.
