While most mobile games these days are often optimized to work flawlessly with touch controls, it goes without saying that a lot of players still prefer to use physical controllers, especially for racing games and action titles, for example. As such, Google recently revealed that Android 17 will be getting a much-awaited feature that will make playing your games a little more convenient.
More specifically, Google will introduce a system-wide upgrade for mobile gamers by bringing native game controller remapping to Android 17, eliminating the frustration of mismatched button layouts between physical gamepads and specific mobile titles. The built-in remapper will allow users to globally customize their gamepad inputs such as swapping out the shoulder buttons or adjusting the face buttons that should apply to their entire library of games.
Since a lot of games on Android come with their own specific button configuration, this sometimes conflicts with connected controllers, leading to user errors, for example, accidentally leaning instead of firing a weapon. Having said all that, we are hoping that the feature implementation on this one in particular will go seamlessly.
