Thoughts on today’s verse…
I still remember trying to learn to affirm my son’s importance to him. I had no idea what he looked like or what I was supposed to do or say. Then, the Holy Spirit gently reminded me of what God the Father had done to confirm the baptism of Jesus the Son.
“You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased” (Luke 3:21).
God confirmed his relationship with Jesus, “you are my son…” God reaffirmed His love and affection for Jesus, “…my son, whom I love…” God confirmed his pleasure in Jesus, “…I am very pleased with you.”
Zephaniah reminds us that the Father feels about us the same way as His children: “He will be very pleased with you…” Furthermore, He comforts us with His love and rejoices with us in singing! God sees and values us as His children. He calms our fears and sings lullabies for us in his joy. We are His children whom He loves and with whom He is pleased!
My prayer…
Oh Lord, I pray that when the storms of life turn against me, I will remember these precious words and find my shelter, comfort, identity, acceptance and peace in your loving care. Please, dear Father, make me more aware of Your singing and Your delight in me. Through my Savior Jesus, I pray. Amen.
