Excitement Season 3 surprises fans with a cruel twist!
As controversial character Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, met his fateful end, show creator Sam Levinson explained the decision.
Spoiler alert: The character died after being buried alive by a loan shark and later bitten by a rattlesnake while trapped inside a coffin. Despite the efforts of Cassie, the character’s wife, played by Sidney Sweeney, Nate cannot be saved.
According to Sam, he wanted Nate’s downfall to leave the audience feeling deeply uneasy. He said, “There’s this kind of fun thing where I know what the audience wants in terms of justice or karma and with that in mind, I’m always thinking, ‘Well, how can I give that to them?'”
Sam said, “How do I give them what they want, but make it so scary and anxiety-provoking that by the time it happens, the audience isn’t sure they wanted it?”
Sam revealed that the idea for the rattlesnake came to him while driving with his wife in Los Angeles, he suddenly imagined a snake entering the coffin through a small pipe while Nate struggled to escape.
The producer recalled, “It was one of those beautiful days in L.A. where the weather was great. We’re listening to Otis Redding. The windows are down and we’re going to Warner Bros. and I’m looking out the window.”
Adding, “I just had this image of a rattlesnake coming towards this pipe. It’s banging and the snake can feel the movement in the ground. And I thought, what if the snake goes into the pipe and then it gets stuck inside the coffin with this rattlesnake?”
He said, “It’s a strange moment where you realize that not all dark visions come from a dark place.”
It is worth mentioning Excitement Season 3 is set to end on May 31.
