Several years ago it was rumored that Dakota Fanning would play an undisclosed role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But now, she is setting the record straight.
“There have been rumors for years that you were going to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It hasn’t come true yet, but I’m curious. Is there any truth to those rumors?” she tells direct While appearing at the 2026 South by Southwest.
She adds, “It hasn’t happened, no. But I’m all for it. Sometimes I see (rumors) on Instagram. I feel like I have to call my agent to see what’s going on. But no, there’s no truth to it so far.”
Although Fanning says she is open to playing the role in the MCU, she also said she has “never really thought about it”. But I’ll be down! I’ll try anything. I’ll do anything if I have someone.”
The actress started acting as a child artiste. Later, she appeared in War of the Worlds, The Twilight Saga, The Runaways, and The Alienist.

She told Vogue, “Kristin Hannah’s best-selling book is Force of Nature. It’s the perfect movie to be in together for the first time because it’s the ultimate sister story of two women fighting in their own different ways.”
Then compare both their on-screen characters. “One is protesting loudly. One quietly, but both are equally strong.”
“This has been a goal of Dakota and mine for a very long time, and we’re both very excited, it’s finally happening next year!” He added.
