Kirsten Maldonado opens up about her Broadway debut and the challenges she faced bringing her character to life.
Maldonado plays Anne Boleyn on Broadway SixWhich started on June 1. The show is about the six wives of King Henry VIII and Boleyn was his second wife, whose marriage to the monarch was annulled due to the infamous beheading in 1536.
The 34-year-old American singer-songwriter told People The magazine reported that she first auditioned for the role in 2023 but could not secure the role at that time and was successful in the audition later.
Recalling her early days of practice, she said, “I went to (New York) sometime in February and did some rehearsals to get a little head start on it.”
Maldonado revealed that she wanted to portray Bolen according to her vision because she feels the character is “super spicy”.
The Pentatonix member explained, “I want to play her really badass, just effortless… and I think her comedy falls within her spontaneity and style. I’m really looking forward to leaning into the pop-punk quality that she’s based on.”
“This show is really tough verbally and physically. I definitely have to warm up my body, do some stretching, which I’m not used to, but I’m excited,” admitted Kirsten Maldonado.
