Mexico City — Mexico’s navy said Saturday it found two boats that went missing while carrying humanitarian aid Cuba.
The ships carrying nine people left Isla Mujeres in southern Mexico on March 20 and then lost contact, raising concerns in Mexico, Cuba and beyond.

The organization Nuestra America Convoys said Friday that based on the speed of the ships reported to Cuban maritime authorities, the boats’ arrival window in Havana should be between Friday and Saturday and the boats should be led by experienced sailors.
James Schneider, communications director for Progressive International, who helped coordinate Nuestra America’s convoy to Cuba, thanked Mexican and Cuban officials on Saturday for their help and said he was “relieved” to hear that they were safe.
“The crew are safe and the ship is continuing its voyage toward Havana,” he said. “The convoy is on track to fulfill its mission – delivering urgently needed humanitarian aid to the Cuban people.”
