United States Department of Education roll Real-time FAFSA processing As of May 31, 2026, students and financial aid offices faced waits of several days, even though FAFSA simplification was working to improve processing.
Students and contributors who sign and submit an initial 2025-26 or 2026-27 FAFSA (or correction) will now receive their FAFSA submission summary immediately. This includes the Verified Student Aid Index (SAI), Federal Pell Grant eligibility, and any comments or decline codes.
Previously, applicants and support administrators had to wait one to three days for overnight batch processing to return results.

Delays in FAFSA processing have defined the last two aid cycles. The 2024-25 cycle was staggered by a failed rollout that pushed financial aid award letters into the summer. A swift turnaround removes one of the most persistent friction points in the federal aid system.
With the changes, FAFSA users can expect:

Not all applications can be processed in real time
Some groups are still on the old one to three day time limit. Experienced applicants will continue to wait until Federal Student Aid completes building out real-time functionality for that population.
Students who submit during maintenance windows or system outages may also see delays. And ISIR file delivery through the SAIG mailbox (the technical feed schools use to enter records into their system) is unchanged.

Immediate visibility into the partner portal allows schools to begin reviewing comments, advise students on outstanding issues, provide packaging assistance, and make enrollment decisions without waiting for overnight cycles.
Batch ISIR files still arrive on the existing schedule, so there is no need to change the internal workflow associated with the SAIG feed.
