Scott Mills, a veteran BBC The presenter, after being dismissed from the network for reasons yet to be made public, suddenly received his marching orders, and in response, his fan-created Reddit page exploded.
Apart from a two-word response ‘personal conduct’, the BBC has not provided any details about its shock decision to fire the radio presenter.
He was a long-time presence on Radio 2 and remained a listener’s favorite for almost 30 years.
Nevertheless, given the speed with which the BBC canceled her contract, social media users on Reddit wondered what the main reason was.
A spokesperson for the network says, “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm that Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC.”
What irked Mills loyalists most was that the radio presenter, just days before his show, signed off with the message that he would return tomorrow.
Yet, he never did. Instead, he disappeared from the airwaves.
What did Scott Mills do?
The sudden dismissal as well as colleagues were stunned by the decision, prompting BBC music director Lorna Clark to share an internal email at the company saying, “I know this news will be sudden and unexpected and should therefore come as a shock.”
She adds, “This is not the case as many of us have worked with Scott for many years across our wide range of programs across R1, 5Live, R2 and TV.”
“I felt it was important to share this news with you as soon as possible,” says Clark. He added, “Of course, it will be a shock to our viewers and loyal breakfast show listeners as well.”
“I will let everyone know more about the show’s plans when I am able. While I appreciate that many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I’m not going to say any more.”
Scott Mills Reddit thread explodes
A number of social media users are reacting to Mills’ shocking dismissal.
One Reddit user says, “BBC presenter sacked? There can only be two reasons for this: staff abuse or someone else.”
Another said, “Taking drugs on the job? Might be able to play the health card for suspension in that case.”
“Hey, don’t forget that it could be drugs!” A third social media user makes a similar guess.
