Here’s what Nate has to say about 13 readers share their favorite walking paths: “I’m a teacher in Minneapolis, and my school is a mile away from the spot where Renee Good was murdered. On that cold January day when she was murdered, I told my middle-school students what the route to my house would be, so they’d know there would be an adult nearby if things got chaotic. They spent weeks supporting students through online learning and grocery delivery. It started as a way to be there for my students, but it became a much-needed cold weather shock to the system that I believe so many of us in Minneapolis were feeling, walking in the cold and caring for our neighbors.
Wendy says about consoling a friend: “When my father passed away, I saw firsthand how much of a grief-phobic culture we live in. Many people didn’t broach my loss because they worried they’d misunderstand. But one night I was out with a friend who was nervous to broach the subject of my father’s death. Finally, he calmed down, and asked softly, ‘How does it all feel?’ In that moment, he allowed me to express myself and also admitted that he didn’t understand, but that he was genuinely curious. It was one of the most beautiful, human, compassionate responses I received in those first six months.
Sarah says on the milk chocolate taste test: “I’m a dark chocolate girl. I can’t eat added sugar, so it’s 100% cocoa for me, which is an acquired taste. This ad – where people are telling each other off about how dark their dark chocolate is – bugged me.”
