Former Australia cricketer and Northamptonshire head coach Darren Lehmann believes England are in a good position to mount a strong reply against New Zealand in the upcoming home Test season, starting in June 2026. They will play a total of 3 matches at home.

Despite poor performances in the previous Ashes series, Lehmann considers England to be favorites to win. They suffered a humiliating defeat in the Ashes, losing 4 out of 5 games, which became a major topic of discussion for the England and Wales Cricket Board on the players’ performance, form and tactics.

Lehmann believes, “They will play exciting cricket”

Moving forward, the former Australian cricketer said that England is going to dominate the upcoming home Test series against the Kiwi team.

“They will play exciting cricket. They will score fast. The wickets will be flat. They will swing between two styles,” Lehmann said in the interview. bbc look east.

“They played very aggressively in Australia. The problem is when the wicket does anything. “They will be rethinking how they want to play at different stages, making sure they are as best prepared as possible,” he said.

Darren Lehmann Asks, “Has the England team returned to their old tactics?”

England are known for their aggressive playing style, often referred to as baseball in international cricket. He adopted this style to dominate against the bowlers and score runs in the side. This aggressive style of play has also won many big games in international cricket.

However, there are series against New Zealand and Pakistan looming which are important for them ICC World Test Championship campaignLehmann expects England to return to their best attacking form.

Darren Lehmann: Was not playing red-ball cricket the reason for your poor performance in the Ashes?

In the last Ashes, England had to face a humiliating defeat against Australia, where they had won only 1 out of 5 matches after losing 3 consecutive games in the series. However, Darren Lehmann believes that not playing enough Test cricket before the start of the series was the main reason for England’s performance.

He commented, “If he had played the first two Shield matches before the first two Tests, then played the two Tests on the bounce, he would have really needed a week off.”

“It’s more about preparation for the Ashes where they didn’t play any county cricket at the end of the summer and then they played a one-day series before the Ashes where they could have played an extra first-class game and that’s probably where it went wrong.”

Darren Lehmann calls for more discipline and planning

Before the start of the series, Lehmann called for greater discipline and planning for the English cricket team with an eye on future major series as per the ICC World Test Championship.

Darren Lehmann emphasized that greater clarity and discipline in planning will be necessary moving forward. He stressed that in a high-stakes environment like the WTC, where every point can determine a finalist, there is no room for tactical ambiguity. To maintain their competitive edge, England will have to refine their approach to cope with specific circumstances and opponents rather than relying on intent alone.

Due to the tight schedules of New Zealand and Pakistan, the margin for error is low. Darren Lehmann believes that a more diligent preparation phase focused on session-by-session execution and a clear understanding of individual roles will be the decisive factors.

“They just need to be a little more diligent in their preparation and what they’re trying to do and how they want to play,” Lehman said.

England’s debut test heat There will be a series against New Zealand from June 4 and then a series with Pakistan in August and September.
