Selena Gomez has spoken out about her mental health after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
During a recent episode of her husband Benny Blanco friends keep secrets podcast, the Calm down The hitmaker shared details about his journey to diagnosis.
When Benny asked Selena if she knew she was bipolar before she was officially diagnosed, she replied, “I knew something was wrong, but I think I was misdiagnosed.”
“I think people were just assuming – and I would try multiple therapists,” she added. “When we’re talking about these things, and it’s really hard for me to say, ‘Go see a therapist.’ It’s all very…complicated.
For those who don’t know, Selena announced her diagnosis in 2020.
“I’m equally proud to say that I have moments of mania,” the 33-year-old singer said. “I don’t feel shy at all, because I can catch them a little quicker.
“It’s helpful to have a partner who understands…and can meet you where you’re at,” she said. Only murders in the building star.
Selena also said that she now lives life more “freely”.
“The whole hypocrisy of shaming people for going to therapy or shaming people for not understanding it is that it’s not just for you,” Selena said. “But for me, it ultimately allowed me to go, ‘Oh, this is why I handled things the way I did. This is why everyone else was able to get over things quickly, and I couldn’t.’
She said, “I would act out of fear, I would act out of love, I would act out of passion. It was all inconsistent. It was madness.”
