Severe storms across Northeast Ohio have prompted multiple tornado warning alerts and caused widespread damage across the region.
The storm brought high winds, hail and heavy rain Tuesday evening, leaving thousands of FirstEnergy customers without power, WEWS News 5 Cleveland reports.
Several communities reported damage, including downed trees, downed power lines, and structural impacts to buildings.
At Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, conditions worsened as travelers faced high winds and heavy rain.
“I heard the rain. I went to the window and saw a slight breeze, thought nothing of it. Came back and sat down. Next thing you know, sha boom boom. Literally a minute,” said homeowner Ronnie Jeffries, according to WEWS news.
Additional reports included a shelf cloud in Brunswick and a downed power pole in Geneva.
As emergency crews continue to assess the damage as the storm surge moves through the area, officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and stay indoors where possible.
