Bhuvneshwar Kumar etched his name in IPL history on Monday night and became the first fast bowler to reach 200 wickets in the tournament.
The milestone came during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s match against Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Bhuvneshwar achieved this feat by dismissing Ayush Mhatre, who was caught safely by RCB captain Rajat Patidar.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the wicket of Ayush Mhatre for his 200th wicket as RCB skipper Rajat Patidar completed a simple catch.”
The moment made him only the second bowler in IPL history, joining Yuzvendra Chahal, to cross 200 wickets.
A milestone built over the years
Showing his consistency over the years, Bhuvneshwar reached this milestone in 191 IPL matches.
He made his name with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he won consecutive Purple Caps in 2016 and 2017.
His ability to swing the ball quickly and bowl tightly in the death overs has made him one of the most reliable fast bowlers in IPL history.
Among all-time wicket takers, Chahal leads with 224 wickets, followed by Bhuvneshwar with 200 wickets. Names like Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla and Ravichandran Ashwin are behind him.
dominance in one-sided match
The milestone came in a match that was already heavily tilted in favor of RCB.
With the help of Tim David’s unbeaten 70 runs and Patidar’s unbeaten 48 runs, RCB scored a huge score of 250/3 in 20 overs. Devdutt Padikkal added a solid half-century at the top.
In reply, CSK were struggling at 47/3 when Bhuvneshwar took his historic wicket, putting RCB firmly in control of the game.
That night belonged to Bhuvneshwar, who not only achieved a rare feat but also proved that experience still wins matches in the IPL.
