There’s something about Palm Springs that makes me want to look like a ’60s housewife every time I go there. Maybe it’s the city’s mid-century modern architecture, the vintage shops filled with groovy prints, or the Frank Sinatra lore. or maybe it’s like the movies Don’t worry darling Those who captured the retro heyday of Palm Springs, or photographers like Slim Aarons who immortalized sun-drenched scenes of poolside relaxation. It’s probably all of the above.

In January 1970, Aarons took a series of now-iconic photographs Kauffman House. The impeccably dressed women wore crochet crop tops, bug-eyed sunglasses, bright yellow two-piece sets, wide-brimmed sun hats and floral minidresses. Not to stand out, men wore printed blazers, crisp linen shirts and white loafers. More than 50 years later, the photos are still the blueprint for Palm Springs style.
