The generous creature will be made fat, and the one who waters will also be watered. Proverbs 11:25
Christ offers living water to us who thirst, that we may drink freely; When we do this we have Christ within us as a well of water welling up for eternal life. Then our words are filled with moisture. We are ready to water others.
As soon as someone comes to Christ, there is a desire in his heart to tell others what a precious friend he has found in Jesus; The saving and sanctifying truth cannot be shut out from his heart. If we are clothed with the righteousness of Christ, and filled with the joy of His indwelling Spirit, we will not be able to keep our peace. If we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good, we will have something to share. . . .
And efforts to bless others will respond as blessings to oneself. This was God’s purpose in giving us a part to work out in the plan of salvation. . . .
If you will work according to the plan of Christ as His disciples will, and win souls for Him, you will feel the need of a deeper experience and greater knowledge in divine things, and you will hunger and thirst for righteousness. You will plead with God, and your faith will be strengthened, and your soul will sip of the deep waters at the well of salvation. Facing opposition and trials will lead you to turn to the Bible and prayer. You will grow in grace and the knowledge of Christ, and develop a richer experience.
The spirit of selfless labor for others gives depth, stability, and Christ-like beauty to the character, and brings peace and happiness to its possessor. The aspirations are high. There is no room for laziness or selfishness. Those who will thus exercise Christian grace will grow, and become stronger to work for God. They will have clear spiritual perceptions, stable, growing faith, and increased strength in prayer. The Spirit of God, moving upon their souls, calls forth the sacred harmony of the soul, in response to the divine touch. Those who thus devote themselves in a selfless effort to the welfare of others are surely earning their own salvation. The only way to grow in grace. . . To the extent of our ability, engage in helping and blessing those who need the help we can give them.
