The outlet also received a statement from Amazon in which they expressed their deep sorrow over the passing of a member while on the job.The report cited a 911 call in which an employee said the man who had fallen to the ground was bleeding profusely from his head. It said that while the man lay dead for more than an hour, work at the facility was going on as usual, as workers were instructed to continue bringing, picking, loading items and management was considering what to do next. All the workers who spoke to Western Wedge sought anonymity and claimed that even after a week, they do not know how the 46-year-old died as per office records. When the man fell, a woman ran to his help and started giving CPR. Another employee asked his supervisor if he should administer CPR. The supervisor reportedly said, “It must be management or the security team. Please get back to work.” The supervisor said, “Just turn around and don’t look. Let’s get back to work.”The man who died April 6 worked as a “tote runner,” a job that required the individual to collect stacks of yellow plastic boxes the size of a person, load them onto a cart and drag them up and down long aisles of the warehouse to deliver them to other workers, who would then fill them with goods to be shipped to trucks. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of a member of our team and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with their loved ones during this difficult time. We have been in touch with their family and have provided resources to support them,” the outlet quoted a spokesperson as saying. “For the staff at our PDX9 facility, we have provided onsite grief counselors and additional support.”
