The transformation of the city starts in two places
“When Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was saddened when he saw that the city was full of idols. So he began to argue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks in the synagogue and with them in the marketplace every day.” (Acts 17:16-18)
For a city or nation to change, it must happen in two areas; Market and local church. When Paul saw all the idols in his city, it became a burden to Athens. Therefore, he began a strategy to win back his city by preaching to the religious leaders and Jews in the synagogue and in the marketplace every day.
Old Testament records show that even at the time of the construction of the Temple it was clear that the foundation should be built through the marketplace and the synagogue. “He set up pillars in front of the temple, one on the south side and one on the north. He named the one on the south side Jachin, and the pillar on the north side he called Boaz” (Chronicles 3:15-17). Jacin was a priest of God who represented the spiritual foundation of the Church. Boaz represented the power of the market and its role in influencing society through workplace ministers, or kings.
God is moving through a collaborative coalition of priests, kings, and intercessors in cities around the world today. This is a city transformation trinity that the Holy Spirit is creating to rid our cities of idols and restore spiritual foundations.
When we begin to equip and free those in the workplace to fulfill their Godly roles in business, government, media, arts/entertainment, and education we will begin to see the idols removed from our cities. Pray that God would raise up godly workplace leaders who will lead with a biblical worldview.
