Virat Kohli is trending on social media platforms again for an off-field moment which fans have turned into a comical encounter. According to various screenshots on social media platforms, the Indian batting star ‘liked’ a photo of South African and German influencer Lieslz and photographer Advait Vaidya.
According to media reports, Virat Kohli is not a follower of the influencer, but his name appeared in the ‘Like’ section of the post, leading to a lot of speculation, as well as several memes, as this is not the first time that Virat Kohli’s social media account has been involved due to a possible ‘algorithm glitch’.
Instead of speculating too much by spreading rumours, fans have taken the moment as a light moment. Netizens are now randomly using Kohli’s previous explanation as a reference to explain the current example.
“Kohli liked this post on Instagram. Loading another paragraph on algorithms,” one of the fans joked in reaction to South African influencer Lizalz’s liked photo. Another user responded, “It’s just an algorithm glitch, guys and it happens to everyone. Sometimes, I see posts on my Insta that I never like.” While another comment read, “Chen se like bhi ni krene deta ye samaj.”

Some of the latest comments claim, “Kohli has disliked the post”, as Virat Kohli’s ‘like’ has been removed from the post soon after the screenshot of the post went viral. At the time of writing the article, the much-talked-about post received 45.3K likes and 5.8K comments, which is considered a huge engagement. Most of the comments in the post are related to Virat Kohli.
A similar incident happened last year
A similar incident happened with the star cricketer in May last year, when his profile name appeared in the likes section of actress Avneet Kaur’s photo. Fans immediately took notice and Kohli started trending on social media. Amid growing speculation, the batsman came forward with a clarification. The Delhi-born man then claimed that he had no intention of negotiating. But this happened due to an algorithmic error.
After liking a photo of Avneet Kaur, Virat Kohli said, “I would like to clarify that while clearing my feed, the algorithm may have accidentally recorded an interaction. There was no intention behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. I appreciate your understanding.”
Since the current incident appears to be similar to the previous incident, netizens are widely using the word ‘algorithm’ to relate to the previous incident. At present no official clarification has come from Virat. It will be interesting to see what he will say in defense to shut down all the ongoing speculations.
Currently, the batsman is with the defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore for the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) season. So far, the right-handed batsman has performed well for the team in the current campaign.
