iOS 26.2 introduces a major new feature that hopefully the average user won’t have to use very often: Advanced Safety Alerts for emergency situations. Here’s how they work.
iOS 26.2 brings advanced security alerts
When severe weather or other emergencies arise, it is especially important for one to have accurate and relevant information.
While iPhones have long supported issuing emergency weather alerts, the iPhone recently got a big upgrade in that department in iOS 26.2.
From Apple’s official release notes:
Advanced safety alerts can notify you about imminent threats like floods, natural disasters, and other emergencies with rich information like maps of affected areas and additional safety guidance (available in the US).
I knew this feature was added in a recent iPhone update, but thankfully I haven’t seen it in action yet.
However, Dylan McDonald recently Posted the following example on: :
As you can see, the new system provides a rich map in the alert notification so you can see at a glance which areas are affected.
Additionally, the notification provides official local government guidance on how to take action to protect yourself and loved ones.
These improvements make Apple’s emergency alerts more useful than the text-heavy, all-caps alerts we’ve all grown accustomed to.
Have you seen Advanced Security Alerts implemented yet? Let us know in the comments.
Update 5:17PM ET: An earlier version of the story said this was a feature of the Weather app. This is wrong. This is a system feature of iOS itself, which has been introduced as part of iOS 26.2.
