On Sunday, April 19, several students were injured near the University of Iowa in the United States.
As reported by campus and law enforcement agencies, police at the scene confirmed three people were seriously injured, while several others were injured.
Officers responded to a report of a “large fight” on the 100 block of East College Street at 1:46 a.m. “Arriving officers heard gunshots,” police said in a statement.
Shooting was reported near College and Clinton streets in Iowa City. According to information provided by Broadcastiff, first responders reported at least four people injured by gunfire.
University President Barb Wilson also confirmed that three University of Iowa students were injured in the shooting.
Video shared by multiple news sources showed dozens of people running away. The officers who reached the spot also clearly heard the sounds of gunshots.
The university issued an alert urging the campus community to avoid the area.
As reported by traffic police and other monitoring officials, it is not clear when the firing began, but additional videos on social media showed a large crowd running away from the scene.
University President Wilson said, “While we wait for additional information, I am thinking of these students and their families, friends and everyone who cares about them.”
