Apple CEO Tim Cook is ready to step down from the responsibility of CEO after 15 years.
On September 1, 2026, Cook will hand over the responsibility of CEO to John Ternes, who leads the hardware engineering department at Apple. However, he will continue his duties as executive chairman of the company in Cupertino, California.
Cook became CEO of the multinational technology company following the death of Steve Jobs in 2011.
He posted a letter on the company’s website that read, “Becoming CEO of Apple and being trusted to lead such an extraordinary company has been the greatest privilege of my life.”
He added, “John Ternes has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with integrity and respect. He is a visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years have already been immense, and he is without a doubt the right person to lead Apple into the future.”
In particular, many believe that Cook could not fulfill Jobs’ vision for Apple, but he used the popularity of the iPhone to bring remarkable success to the company. This incredible success came after the company came close to bankruptcy in the mid-1990s.
It is worth mentioning that Turnus, who started working as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2021, played a key role in launching products like MacBook, Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and AirPods.
