Demi Lovato shared how her past eating disorder haunted her during her wedding planning.
Demi Lovato while promoting her new cookbook In conversation: “One plate at a time” At the event held on Tuesday, March 17, the actress and singer revealed how she felt “terrified” while deciding on the menu for her wedding.
Speaking about her journey to recovery from an eating disorder, Lovato said, “I think it reflects where I am in my journey to recovery from disordered eating and eating disorders.
“It took me a long time. I first went to treatment for an eating disorder when I was 18. And it took me a long time to get there, get comfortable with food and step into the kitchen.”
“Sometimes it can be a long process for people. And I’m one of those people, but I’m very proud of the journey I’ve been on and I’m excited. I’m excited to share it and share these recipes that we’ve created,” she said.
The “Heart Attack” singer, who tied the knot with Jordan “Zoots” Lutes last year, said planning the meal for her big day was “intimidating” but her now-husband stepped in to support her.
Lovato recalled, “When we tested we were paying special attention to what was on the menu, so the caterer came to my house and cooked, I think it was 18 different foods.”
She added, “And that was scary, but I got over it with the support of my lovely husband and we decided on a few dishes and yes, we were very particular about what we ate at the wedding. We wanted to eat only what we liked.”
